David K – Somewhere In My Head (Deetron Remix)

Haunting minimal with the vocals of “there is somewhere in my head that I would love to be”,...oh hell yes there is baby.  The vocals are almost kind of an indie-rock style, a slight tinge of shouting to it.  Love this.

I slowed it down to 120 for my soon to be released new DJ mix (it will be the 3rd one listed here) and it sounded even more lush.

Aardvarck - That Pig (Extended Mix)

This is a really cool little track that nobody really knows about, it has a kind of garage feel to it and some 1997 style bleeps.  I don't really have anything else to say about it!

Delete - Slo-Mo Girl (Fur Coat Dark After Hour Mix)

One of those basslines that are just devastating and should really have the Environmental Officers around to my flat, I can only assume my neighbours are deaf.  A good use of samples too.  The keys on my keyboard are rattling!

Solomun - Something We All Adore

Yum, yum, Solomun - someone who is increasingly catching my eye to the point where he is probably the DJ I most want to see that I have never seen.

This is a lovely deep house track, though not too deep, with a little male vocal talking over it "something we all adore"...hmm lovely stuff.

Out on Supernature.

Luca C, Brigante - Morals (Clockwork Remix)

This is cool, just nice relaxing deep house with a snippet of the obligartory vocals.  Out on Southern Fried.

I really do kind of like the vocals, "we got different morals", oh yes we have!

Makossa & Megablast - Soy Como Soy (DJ Koze No Voy A Cambiar Repaso)

The original is a very good track in itself but Koze can be quite the magician on the remix and he takes this a whole level further, giving it a whole extra edge and doubling the length to just short of 13 minutes.  Quite superb.

Robag Wruhme - Donnerkuppel

Melodic techno, or maybe tech-house - sounds like it belongs with Cocoon though it is on the almost equally magnificent Kompact.

Almost sounds like it is from 2007.

I do have a lot of time for Robag - some of his stuff is great though some of it just passes me by, same with his DJ sets.  Definitely not for everyone!

Enzo Siragusa – Sagamore

This is just really good, solid underground house music that you can get down to quite easily but doesn’t do anything to make it not be underground – very impressive, I think this guy is a regular at Fuse in London which is a good little party.

Mark E - Plastic People (MEdit)

I love this tune, I realise that it is a couple of years old but it is really quite emotive and floating kind of house, I put it in my deep house folder though realistically it is probably too upbeat and housey for deep house, but shoot me - actually don't, I want to hear this more.

Storm Queen - It Goes On (Dub)

This is clever, very clever.

You may have heard the excellent original version, which would have had a post of its own and still very well may do, but this exceeds the original creation.

Really, really good track, deep dark, druggy disco-house.  Oh and I will be blogging about the Art Department remix soon too.

Ruede Hagelstein & The Noblettes - A Priori (Noir Remix)

I love this track, kind of a romantic swooshy house feeling to it, and a superb drop - not an overdone drop either.  Just a really, really good house track.

Noir is a name to look out for.

Available on Souvenir Music.

Talk Talk - It's My Life

I love this track, such an 80's track, because it is about 30 years old - its my life and I am going to do what I want with it thank you very much and be who I want to be, and I put it in my previous DJ mix too.

Got to love a bit of 80's retro electro stuff, especially on a Friday.

Doctor's Cat - Feel The Drive

A fantastic piece of Italo-disco all the way back from 1983 I think, which I have just discovered - or at least re-discovered because I found it on an old Secretsundaze cd - I thoroughly recommend getting a higher quality version than the one on Youtube - and turning the volume up and having a proper disco dance!

Dinky - Sealed

I don't have much to say about this.

It is just a really good quality house tune, quite underground and it doesn't have a great big dirty bassline so it is kind of unique.

Love Dinky too - she smashed it at fabric when I saw her...back in 2010?

Released on Crosstown Rebels.

Metrika & Bastard Love - You Owe Me A Feeling

There is a lot of this kind of music at the moment, you know, the deep dark rolling bassline kind of not too fast house but this stands out by being more understated than some of what is out there.

I don't have much else to say, it is just a good dark house song.

Friday 6 January 2012

Jamie Jones - Rockbat

Hmmm, dark, chuggy and bleepy, perfect for a dark winter evening - tech-house with a slight electro kind of robotic touch to it.

My Favorite Robot - Forest Fires

I'm kind of assuming My Favourite Robot are a band, and they are hopping onto this bassline-driven slow house thing that is so popular right now, but give it a touch of the band thing - ok, I can hear some symbol crashes intermittently, but the track is really good and is quite emotional kind of sounding.  I didn't think much to it on first listen but it has really grown on me quickly.

Out on Visionquest.

Woodkid - Iron (Gucci Vump Remix)

One of many very good tracks introduced to me on the fabriclive Brodinski CD - this starts rather underwhelming but goes all dramatic and haunting, repeating the words 'your face'.

Really damn good.

Nina Kraviz - You Take

First top tune of 2012 and finally a new track by Nina Kraviz - a nice deep, slightly twisted house track with her unmistakeable vocal talents on top.  Actually on Soundcloud to download for free too.  Legally.

Rumour of an album this year - I cannot wait to buy it.
